Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled is a National Award winning NGO founded in the year 1997 by Shri Mahantesh G Kivadasannavar, and his schoolmate and childhood friend, Late. Shri Nagesh SP. Samarthanam works for the empowerment of persons with disabilities and the underserved. Samarthanam caters to these people in need by providing a plethora of services including quality education, accommodation, health and nutrition, vocational training, sports, and placement based rehabilitation. The initiatives of Samarthanam strive towards creating opportunities for them to keep pace with the rest of the society.
Today, Samarthanam Trust stands to be a wholesome end-to-end solution provider by supporting educational and the livelihood needs of individuals with disabilities and to those from the underprivileged backgrounds via its many Residential Schools and Livelihood Resource Centres located in multiple locations across India and with an international presence in the UK and the USA. The organization also facilitates direct livelihood opportunities women in distress through its Social Enterprises like Punar and Swadhara Gruh.
Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI), the cricketing arm of Samarthanam, fosters the game of blind cricket and the visually impaired players across India. Spearheaded by its Founder Managing Trustee who is also the President of CABI and World Blind Cricket Ltd (WBC), the Indian Cricket Team for the Blind has acquired international fame by winning numerous championships, tournaments, and the World Cup for the Blind.
Samarthanam envisions to touch at least 100,000 lives by 2020, providing comprehensive solutions to the disabled and underserved communities.
